DSU CARES is a LEARN & WORK IN UTAH initiative supported by the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the Talent Ready Utah team, in partnership with the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE).

The program provides tuition assistance for short-term education to Utah residents whose employment has been affected by COVID-19.


Certification 2.0

A non-credit career exploration and preparation course to help non-traditional students develop and share their personal brand, enhance their digital presence, prepare to enter the workforce and/or make career transitions.

Limited to 15 students per semester block (7-week session). Begins October 20th.

A one and half semester certificate program that prepares students for entry-level jobs.

Includes instruction in buyer behavior and dynamics, principle of marketing research, demand analysis, cost-volume and profit relationships, pricing theory, marketing campaign and strategic planning, market segments, advertising methods, sales operations and management, consumer relations, retailing, and applications to specific products and markets.

Limited to 6 students. Begins October 19, 2020.

Primarily offered in the evenings or online, classes are designed to fit around other responsibilities.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must have:

  1. Completed high school (or equivalent) AND
  2. Been displaced, furloughed, laid-off, or underemployed due to COVID-19.

Financial Aid

In addition to the low tuition cost ($20/credit) and inclusion of all course materials and associated fees, students can apply for additional financial aid to assist with living expenses while enrolled in the program.


Is there still enough time to apply for the upcoming Fall 2020 Semester?

Yes. Block 2 courses begin on October 19, 2020.

Do the programs listed have prerequisite requirements?

Some of the programs do require specific course prerequisites depending on your previous education experience. Click the “Learn More” link associated with each program for additional information.

How long does it take to complete each program?

Most of the certificate programs can be completed in as little as a one semester. All other programs can be completed in two semesters.

How much of the program is available only online?

Classes are primarily offered in the evenings on campus, with some classes available online. Click the “Learn More” link associated with each program for additional information.

What student support services are available?

All existing student support services are available to you as a student at DSU.

Are there additional costs beyond the $20/credit?

No. All general and course fees, and course materials are included in the $20/credit tuition cost.
